Ir. Carel Callenbach
Carel Callenbach lives in different countries since childhood which resulted in speaking 7 different languages fluently. After studying Tropical Agricultural Technology and finishing his MSc Agricultural Economics / Marketing and Marketing Research at Wageningen University (1993 -The Netherlands) Carel began his professional career in The Netherlands at the Van Hall Institute Leeuwarden as lector Marketing Management and Marketing Research. He was chairman of the Counsel for Agricultural Business administration and Logistics and still is member of the External Counsel of Advice of Van Hall Institute. At the same time he was member of the International Exam Board Committee Greenwich University (London).
Acting as Management Information Controller for NIVE, a Dutch industry for egg-products, and later as Area Export Manager South Europe for Sloten BV, a producer of milk-replacers and young animal feed, both in The Netherlands, he gained lots of knowledge of the food en feed industry and the permitted ingredients and regulations in different countries. In 2000 Carel Callenbach went to France to perform as Commercial Director for Serval, one of the largest milk-replacer producers in France, where he founded several international subsidiaries and was responsible for mergers and acquisitions.
The discussion about animal based ingredients in animal feed and the BSE epidemic in Europe and his inside knowledge of the workable substances of ingredients put him on the trail of algae. Culturing algae on a commercial scale was rare in the world but in The Netherlands there was a small firm that acted in that field, and in 2005 Carel Callenbach took over the plantations as a backward integration of the mother company Ingrepro BV.
